First of all, WOW! What a great start to Year 4. The children have all settled back into school life well and we are very impressed with their learning attitudes.
Here is some information about Year 4 and what will be expected of your child.
Reading books and records
All children will be issued with a reading book and record within the next week. We would like them to read at least 3x a week with an adult. Please remember to sign your child’s record to let us know how they are getting on. If they read independently at home, we are encouraging them to also write this in their diaries themselves. Books and records should be in school every day.
Homework and Spellings
Homework and spellings will be given out on a Thursday and returned on a Tuesday. The homework given will be closely linked to learning happening within school. They will have weekly maths/English homework, plus the Creative Homework sheet which will come home also within the next week.
We are following a scheme for spellings in school, which consists of the spelling patterns for Year 4, plus the statutory word list. Spelling lists will combine both of these.
Please ensure kits are labelled and in school each week. Swimming will commence the week beginning Monday 19th September and you will receive a separate letter detailing this.
How can you help?
If you are able to come into school to help in class, please let us know, as this support would be greatly appreciated.
Here are some useful websites which will help your child; www.sumdog.com – each child will be given a log-in at school and can use this site at home. It is fantastic at improving accuracy and speed within maths.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/english/spelling_grammar/ - this website will help you child with the different elements of English.
https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login?c=0 (bug club) – your child should already have a log-in for this site, but if not, a new one can be given. This site contains different books for your child to answer online and then answer related questions.
And please don’t forget, the whole Year 4 team will be out on the playground at the beginning and the end of the day. Please let us know if you feel there is something we should know to help your child whilst they are at school. We know the importance, at Ripley Juniors, of working as a team between home and school and know that this contributes to the success of the children whilst they are here learning.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Year 4 team.
