Spring Term

This term, we will be learning...

Our topic will be Trade and Economics, along with The Shang Dynasty. We will be looking at how trade works, particularly with reference to importing and exporting. We then move on to finding out about The Shang Dynasty and how it developed global trade.

Our English topic begins with Spooky Suspense Stories - the children will develop ways to create tension and suspense within their stories. Alongside this, they will develop their spelling, punctuation and grammar techniques.

In our guided reading sessions, we will read whole-class texts and then answer various comprehension style questions. Our questions types are called VIPERS -vocabulary, interpret, predict, explain, retrieve and summarise. These will help the children with their knowledge and understanding of language and structure and how/why authors use them.

In maths, we will begin by recapping the decimal system and how it works. We will then move onto reasoning and problem solving with decimals.

Our computing this term will focus on how we stay safe online, and how we respond appropriately to different situation. It will also include Cyber-bullying and ways to deal with it.

Our art unit links with our topic - we will be learning more about the Japanese artist Hokusai. We will create our own representations of this style of painting and print.

Our French lessons will see us develop our knowledge of the French language; continuing to improve our understanding of the grammar behind it and our accent. This term, we will focus on the topic of 'My Family.'

We are extremely lucky this term to have wheelchairs to use in our PE lessons. We will begin by learning how to use the wheelchairs, and then using them effectively to play various sports.

Our PSHE unit will focus on stereotypes and how they can be harmful. We will also explore the different emotions we may feel, and find strategies and healthy ways to express them.
