Spring Term

Jason and the Golden Fleece

This morning, we had the chance to work with the Partake theatre group to investigate the Greek myth 'Jason and the Golden Fleece'. We had a great time acting out in traditional Ancient Greek styles while also learning about the story!

World Book Day 2017!

Year 3 have spent the day exploring the work of J. K. Rowling. We've written fantastic poems inspired by the Golden Snitch, investigated the story of the Deathly Hallows, created magic poems, designed our own Fantastic Beasts and even made our own snitch!

What great costumes too! Thank you to all of our parents for the support you have given once again!

Have a look at the photos below and see what we've been up to!

Investigating word families. This week we have explored word families and how they are created. Just don't tell Ms Stack that we've written on the tables!

To celebrate the end of our ancient Egypt topic, we all dressed up as Egyptians and had some fun. We painted our names in hieroglyphics, sampled some Egyptian food, mummified our friends, created a pyramid, made Egyptian jewellery and created canopic jars. Such fun had by all!

We all had great fun learning about measures in maths!

This week we have been exploring characters of adventure stories in preparation of writing our own Egyptian adventures. We had a go at creating our own characters using newspaper and book images!

In maths, we have been exploring written methods for multiplying. We've shown great 'more than just me' learning attitudes by supporting our friends when we have found a number sentence tricky. Well done!

Spring 1 2017 Creative Homework

The theme for the first half of the Spring Term is...

The Ancient Egyptians!

We will be exploring the life of people who lived in Ancient Egypt as well as their beliefs and customs. We will also explore:

As part of the topic, we will also be having an Egyptian day where we will participate in various activities.

In Maths, we will be continuing to explore multiplication and division, before moving onto length, weight and capacity.

English units will also link to our Ancient Egyptians topics, where we will explore writing adventure stories based on the novel Tutankhamun’s Arrow by Karen Wallace and create leaflets all about Egypt!

In art, we will investigate death masks, jewellery and creating canopic jars out of clay. These units will link the drawing skills we began to explore in the autumn term.

Our science topic is called 'Where does my shadow come from?' and explores light sources, darkness, light refection and how shadows are created.

Our RE topic will explore the different stories told by Jesus in the Bible. We will explore different perceptions of these stories and we shall consider how soe Christians may use it in their daily life.

In PE, we shall be exploring different ways to stay healthy and will be completing health related fitness activities – this will be on a Wednesday. On Friday we will explore different dances, which will end with a dance created linked to the Egyptians.

This term, we also begin learning how to speak French! We will begin with basic greetings, asking about feelings and counting to 10.

This is such an exciting term and we are really looking forward to the fantastic work our children will create! For more information, please see our 'What is year 3 learning about in Spring Term 1?' document - this will be in your child's book bag. On the back will also be a copy of this half terms creative homework.
